I am going to teach like a Pirate!!! Arrrgg!

When I say I am EXCITED.. it is an understatement about how I am feeling right now.  I am joining this summer book study with some great teacher friends!! Teach like a Pirate! Only $9 and change at amazon.com!

Thank you Rowdy in First Grade!
and Third Grade Tidbits!

Chapter 1: Passion

Within your subject matter, what are you passionate about teaching?

This is tough! I LOVE LOVE reading! But the best kind of reading is the kind the resonates within the child and gets them thinking and analyzing their own lives. I know most people will say that teaching values is a no no, but it is my FAVORITE! I love reading about how characters fall into sticky situations and talk about how we might fix a similar problem. I think I love this time in my class because this is when we really get to know one another.

Within your profession, but not specific to your subject matter, what are you passionate about?

My professional passion is to create a special place that we call ours. Where all students feel open to discuss, question, and share. A place where the students are not afraid to be themselves and feel good about who they are. I also have a professional passion for creating exciting, engaging, hands on lessons where my 1st graders use their imaginations to change the room from a classroom to a pizza shop or science lab. After all.. "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein

Completely outside of you profession, what are you passionate about?

I am a creator of all kinds of things! I love crafting, sewing, scrap booking, creating digital items, taking photographs, organizing things, labeling those things I've organized, and sharing all of the above with the people I love. I am passionate about life and living everyday as though it will be my last. I am passionate about my family. I enjoy telling them how much I love them! You never know when it will be too late to say goodbye!

My favorite line from this chapter: "Light yourself on fire with passion... and don't worry if it's not a controlled burn."

Join us!! It will be fun!

The Red Carpet Party Has Arrived!

End of The Year Red Carpet Premier

This day flew by so fast! I wish I could have made the hour of the party drag out just a little longer! I loved the look on the childrens' faces as they walked into the room to see it transformed and to see all of their loved ones clapping for them as they came in. They went to their seat and loved their gift bags! They also loved the feather boas, bow ties, and top hats! Then it was time for the awards. One by one I called them down the red carpet to receive their award trophy and certificate! They loved cheering for one another and hearing their awards!

I tried to give a little speech about how much I loved their children and how hard it will be to give them away to a new teacher, but I bust into tears. I think they got the message though :)

Then it was time for the DVD! I continued to cry through that as well! I looked out to see a sea of mothers crying also.. it made me feel much better! Then we dug in to the yummy food and took pictures in the hollywood photo booth!

After the kids were gone, I looked around the room and tried to tell myself that as hard as it is to say goodbye it is my job to make them see that they have learned everything they can from me and now it is time for them to soar into second grade! This class is a special group. No one will ever quite have my heart like they do!

Wherever you go.. My love will find you!

Beach Day!

Who does not LOVE the beach?

Hello Friends!

Just 3 more days of school left after today! We kicked off this week with Beach Day! It was so much fun and it is thanks to my wonderful parent helpers! They did such an amazing job running the stations. I was actually able to walk around and enjoy my students without stressing!

Beach day was not originally on my schedule for the last week but my great friends at Two Friends in First told me about it and I could not turn it down!

We had 5 stations
1. Bucket List Craftivity
2. Watercolor & Salt Beach Paintings
3. End of The Year Shirts
4. Buddy Reading on a beach towel
5. Chalk Art

Here are some of the pictures!

The shirts were a last minute thing I
thought of and I am so glad that I did!

I just used iron on paper to put the words
on the front and back of the shirts

On the last day of school we are going
to sigh the back of the shirt with colored sharpies

The students got to pick whether
they wanted Pink, Blue, or Green

The girls buddy reading.. too cute ;)

 Happy ALMOST Summer :)

One Tiny Turtle

Hey there!

Happy Thursday! I was really excited about ordering the One Tiny Turtle book by Nicola Davies from the scholastic book order. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I wanted to use this book... then with just 9 days left to go I thought to myself, "STOP over-thinking this just let them ENJOY it!" So here is the craft and writing page :) It is FREE on my TPT - get it by clicking on the image below!

Enjoy!

You life the turtle to find out that she is laying eggs!
