Fraction Pizza

Thank you to Delighted in Second for this fabulous idea! We made the chef hats and had a ball! Here are some of the pictures..

The hats were easier to make then you would think. They are just one sentence strip and one piece of tissue paper per child! It took me about 40 minutes to make 24 of them.

Here is a student sample

Today was a little bitter sweet. We had a great day learning about fractions, but we had to say goodbye to a very sweet classmate. I wanted to throw him a little party so the other students and I snuck in the room after lunch and turned the lights off. When he came in we jumped up and yelled surprise! We scared him, but he had a great surprise party! Here is a picture of his desk before he walked in. I am already missing him. It is always hard to say goodbye to friends, especially the ones whose little smile brightens your day! He is in my thoughts and prayers and I know that he will continue to work hard in his new school. Missing you #1!!

Wedding Fun!

This is my teacher blog, however who does not love a good love story :)

So Davey and I are getting married in just 76 days! Time has flown so fast! We have been working with two great friends that we know from school to do the cinematography for our wedding. You might be thinking what is cinematography... I did too :) They do not refer to themselves as videographers because a videographer just films the wedding and then gives you the footage. Eric & Chris Aumen take the footage they shoot and they make it into a movie. You can follow this link to their webpage AM Wedding Stories.  I sat one day and watched all of their videos and balled my eyes out. I did not even know the people, but these guys do such a good job at pulling out those simple moments that are so important!

They have something available with their package called an engagement session. Davey and I were both unsure how it would work, so we decided to create an invitation that we could incorporate a DVD for each guest. We had everything ready and then it was  time to film. It was weird how nervous we both got! We know the story of the first day we met, but saying it on camera was a little different. In just under 2 minutes Aumen Media made the day we met into a mini movie. It has been known to make people teary eyed (especially our mothers)!

Here it is...

Chart like Crazy!

I love making charts! These are not even my best ones, but I thought I would take pictures of the ones we have up and share with everyone. The best thing for charts is the Sharpie Chart Markers. They are very bright as you can see that the point is thick. This is great because you can read them no matter where you are in the room :)  I get a lot of great ideas from Pinterest and an awesome website called Chart Chums. Check it out!

Pinterest LOVE!

Who is not addicted to or in LOVE with Pinterest??

It is by far the most fun and easiest way to plan for an event or lesson! I got this idea a week or so ago about having a movie themed end of the year party... thanks to pinterest my idea has now become an obsession! I just went out to the party store and bought some awesome props for the kids to use while we take our head shots, I have a helper making stars for the floor to put the students names on...

So here is a link to my pinterst board and here are some of the pictures! Are you thinking about having a red carpet party? Check out my TPT item and if there is anything you want to know or anything you want added I will be glad to help :)

Recycling Superheroes!!

I absolutely love Earth Day! It has something I have been passionate about for some time. Here are some of the fun things I have enjoyed!

MUST HAVE BOOK(S)!

We read Michael Recycle & Michael Recycle Meets Litterbug Doug and the students LOVED every minute of it! Ellie Bethel is amazing! She has some other ones on Amazon that look great!

Once we read these, we used these great recycle boxes I got from Oriental Trading. They were well worth the money and they have held up now through three years of students using and sorting them. There are 6 boxes. It breaks it down into the following groups: Aluminum, Plastic, Paper, Compost, Glass, and Cardboard! There are cardboard pieces with great graphics of all types of items that fit into the boxes. They are sturdy!

Then, we had a group discussion about where our trash goes and how we can reuse, reduce, and recycle. Cara Carroll has a great items on TPT that was an extra addition this year and I loved it! Check it out by clicking HERE! She has some great writing and crafts. She even has one craft that goes perfectly with the super hero theme :)

Then for the grand event...  The students find out that they are going to also become recycling superheroes!!!! I have changed the way I make their head bands. Instead of making them ahead of time I let the students use scrap paper, newspaper, and other recycled items to create their own. For the capes I went to the local fabric store and found whatever green fabric was on sale or was left over. It does not matter what it looks like. (You could even ask for old green shirts from home to reinforce the reusing concept!) I cut them into small strips about 8 inches wide and 24 inches long. I DO NOT SEW ANYTHING! I just buy safety pins and pin them right to their shirts. In less than 20 minutes our whole class was transformed into recycling superheroes!!

DO NOT forget one for you!! :)

ready to save the planet!!

Our school custodian even came outside to cheer the students on and tell them how great it is to keep our school clean and helped us with what to recycle.

More pictures coming soon.. As Earth Day in our class continues!
